’1689 Group’ introduction and rules

Posted .

I miss the days of simple online forums where we could start a new thread on a topic of interest and enjoy the subsequent discussion. I’ve tried every modern platform to replicate the experience. Facebook and other social networks aren’t ideal because they weren’t built for this purpose. Discord and similar tools are unnecessarily complex and confusing to the average user. I’ve sought something much easier to navigate and designed with singular intention.

If you’re reading this, you have found the platform I’ve craved—a minimal, straightforward forum to facilitate friendly conversations online among like-minded people. In this case, we are bound together by Christ and our shared conviction that the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith is an accurate and well-written summary of fundamental biblical truth. I should note, however, that membership does not require complete affirmation of the 1689. Furthermore, discussions are not limited to theological subjects. I ask only that each member follow the rules and be respectful to others.

If you’re a new member, I encourage you to complete your profile and introduce yourself to the group with a new post.

The Rules

  1. While this group was created for those who affirm the 1689, everyone is welcome.
  2. Blasphemy, attempting to spread heresy, foul language, bitterness, anger, slander, malice, and general disrespect towards Christians and our biblical worldview may be grounds for exclusion.
  3. Members are welcome to discuss any topic—theology, ecclesiology, eschatology, history, books, politics, personal. But please observe the following principle: If you wouldn’t talk about it with your brothers and sisters in Christ on Sunday, it probably doesn’t belong here.
  4. Links to personal websites, blogs, and podcasts are allowed within reason. Our moderators will determine whether posts are helpful or merely self-promotional. Do everything for the glory of God (1Co 10:31).
These rules are subject to change.
